Apple adds digital Legacy Contact

As of iOS 15.2, Apple has made it easy to be able to grant a legacy contact access to your phone and iCloud account in the event of your death. This is a great way of making sure a loved one has access to your digital data that's on your iPhone or iPad and your iCloud account without you having to divulge your device unlock code. If you have an iPhone running iOS 15.2 or newer, you can access this menu by going to:

Settings ------> click your name at the top -------> Password & Security ------> Legacy Contact.

Follow the instructions on screen to finalise the arrangements. You can then print out your legacy instructions to lodge with your Will or send your legacy contact a text message to advise them immediately that they have been granted this access upon your death. The information you are given is a very long code that you will need to provide to Apple at the appropriate time. This will allow them to unlock the device and the iCloud account upon receipt of the supporting documentation (Death Certificate)

If you are unsure and would like to discuss this further, please get in touch.
